FAQ

How do the appointments work?

Once you contact me, we will set up an appointment that hopefully meet your needs. Typically, I like to book initial appointments for 1.5 hours, as this allows me to perform a thorough assessment, provide the necessary education and treatment and answer the questions that clients typically have during the first visit. Should your appointment run shorter that the scheduled 1.5 hours, I will adjust the payment accordingly.

What Covid precautions do you take?

I will come prepared with a mask and a face shield, as well as hand sanitizer. When possible, I will wear the mask. For clients with facial palsy, it may occasionally be important to demonstrate how to do certain facial movements, in which case I will have the face shield available as an option. If you have a dry outdoor space, I am happy to have the appointment there. When it comes to covid, I believe communication and erring on the side of caution is vital - I am happy to reschedule any appointment, or switch a home visit to a virtual appointment should you or I or anyone in either of our households have any symptoms.

How often will I have to see you?

This will depend on the reason you have booked the appointment as well as what your goals are. People who book appointments for facial neuromuscular retraining will often see me more on a consultation basis every 4 to 6 weeks, while those who have neurologic conditions may wish to see me more frequently. Once we meet and I have had a chance to perform a full assessment and discuss your goals, we will be able to come up with a plan that suits your needs.

How far will you travel?

Currently, I will perform home visits throughout the municipalities of Victoria, Saanich, Oak Bay and Esquimalt. For those who live in Central and North Saanich, Sooke, Sydney, Colwood, Langford and View Royal, I am happy to set up home visits but I will have to charge travel time along with my regular visitation fees. Virtual appointments are available for anyone who prefers this format. For those who do not wish to pay travel time or who live outside of the Greater Victoria area, virtual appointments are also an option.

How do I know if my condition is appropriate for your treatment?

Please contact me and we can discuss if I am the right physiotherapist for you and your condition. I am happy to refer you to someone else if I think your condition may be better treated by them.

I have had a facial palsy for years - is it too late for me to do anything about it?

It is never too late to to see a trained physiotherapist regarding the effects of a facial palsy.

I just developed a facial palsy. When should I book an appointment so see you?

I would recommend seeing someone as soon as possible. Please let me know if this is a new development. I try to prioritize clients with new onset facial palsy as education at the early stages can do a lot to prevent difficulties we will have to work through. Contact me as soon as you are able to and I will try to schedule you for the first available appointment.
